My Fearless Students

This week we will be working with words, taming them as if they were wild creatures.  We need to stalk our words looking for the perfect fit to describe our characters and setting. Twist and turn our ideas to think up plots that amaze our readers, and train our stories to reflect their genre.  I hope you’re feeling brave because it is time to enter the haunted fairgrounds and begin our writing journey. Enter if you dare...

To the Parents

Once again we will be using technology in our classroom to help us with our learning.  This week we are focussing on the elements of story, including genre, plot, setting, and characters. Using the website Word Tamer your child will brainstorm ideas for a story that they will be writing. This website will help to increase your child’s descriptive vocabulary and help us to explore what the different elements of a story are.  The curriculum expectations that this lesson will cover are:

Grade 6 Language Writing Overall Expectation- Generate, gather, and organize ideas and information to write for an intended purpose and audience
Specific Expectation- Identify and order main ideas and supporting details and group them into units that could be used to develop a structured, multi-paragraph piece of writing, using a variety of strategies

If you would like to further your child’s understanding on this topic try reading a story aloud to your son/daughter and discuss what they have learned about the characters, where the story takes place, the feeling they got from the story, and what happened.

                        Enjoy,
                              Ms. Hyde
