My PLN

On Saturday September 17th, 2011 I attended the professional development workshop Project Wild.  Project Wild is dedicated to teaching the importance of environmental stewardship to students and teachers. Its goal is to teach students to become environmentally aware so that they can make educated decisions on how their behaviour affects people, wildlife, and the Earth.
Project Wild provides teachers with hundreds of completed lesson plans that are ready to use in the classroom. The lesson plans are aligned with the Ontario curriculum, mostly tailored to the environmental section under science and technology, however, there are also many lessons which integrate multiple subject areas. These lessons cater to grades K-12 and include the objectives, methods, background information on the topic, material lists, detailed procedures, extensions, and evaluation ideas.
I chose to attend Project Wild because I feel very strongly that individuals have a relationship with their environment and we all should be aware of how our actions affect the world around us.  I also believe that learning about environmental stewardship gives students a sense of purpose as they will learn their responsibility to care for the environment, which can make their learning more meaningful.
